Victim Describes Rapist as Tall and Black, Police Arrest and Charge Short White Man
A 5ft 5in 26-year-old white man who was arrested and charged with rape despite the fact that the victim described her attacker as a tall black man has left court a free man after the prosecutor declined to offer any evidence to the court.
The man was charged based on DNA from a hair caught in the victim’s ring. The prosecutor admitted that because it was from an external hair not an internal swab its significance as evidence was greatly reduced.
The judge asked the media to respect his desire not to be publicly named. “He is a man who leaves this court with no blame whatsoever. He is a wholly innocent man, who might have been the victim of a gross miscarriage of justice,” he said.
